Installation Guidelines

Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician in accordance with all local codes and manufacturer instructions.

  1. Select location: Outdoor unit must be placed on level, stable surface with adequate clearance (min 24" on all sides).
  2. Connect refrigerant lines: Use clean, dehydrated copper tubing of correct size. Braze with nitrogen purge.
  3. Electrical connections: Connect power wiring to disconnect switch and unit terminals per wiring diagram.
  4. Connect to indoor unit: Match to compatible American Standard indoor coil and air handler/furnace.
  5. Evacuate and charge: Evacuate system to 500 microns, charge with R-410A to specified subcooling.

WARNING! Only qualified personnel should install or service this equipment. Risk of electric shock, fire, and personal injury.

First-Time Startup

After installation, perform system startup and verification.

  1. Power up: Turn on power at disconnect switch and indoor unit.
  2. Thermostat setup: Configure communicating thermostat for cooling operation.
  3. System check: Verify proper airflow, refrigerant charge, and electrical measurements.
  4. Test modes: Run system in cooling mode, check temperature drop across indoor coil.
  5. Customer orientation: Explain basic operation, filter maintenance, and warranty registration.

CAUTION! Do not operate without proper refrigerant charge. Ensure all access panels are secured.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Primary control is through compatible thermostat. Unit has internal control board with diagnostic capabilities.

Thermostat Operation: Set to COOL mode, select desired temperature. System will cycle automatically.

LED Status Lights: Three LEDs on control board indicate system status: - LED 1 (Green): Power status - LED 2 (Red): Compressor status - LED 3 (Yellow): General fault indicator

Variable Speed Operation: Communicating models adjust compressor speed for optimal efficiency and comfort.

Safety Controls: High and low pressure switches, compressor overload protection, anti-short cycle timer.

Connecting Thermostat

Compatible with American Standard communicating thermostats (e.g., AccuLink™) and conventional thermostats.

  1. Turn off power at disconnect switch.
  2. Remove access panel to expose control board.
  3. For communicating thermostat: Connect 4-wire cable to COMM terminals.
  4. For conventional thermostat: Connect to Y, C, O/B, and G terminals as needed.
  5. Secure wiring, replace access panel, restore power.

Tip: Refer to thermostat installation manual for specific wiring instructions.

Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Monthly: Check and replace indoor air filter as needed.
  2. Seasonal: Clean outdoor coil with gentle water spray (power off).
  3. Annual professional service: - Inspect refrigerant charge and connections - Check electrical components and connections - Clean indoor coil and drain line - Verify proper airflow - Lubricate motors if required
  4. Winter preparation: Cover unit or keep clear of snow and debris.

WARNING! Always turn off power before performing any maintenance. Coil cleaning chemicals may be harmful.

Safety Features

High pressure switch: Protects against excessive discharge pressure. Low pressure switch: Prevents operation with low refrigerant charge. Anti-short cycle timer: Prevents compressor rapid cycling (3-minute minimum). Compressor overload protection: Internal protection against overheating. Fused disconnect: Required for electrical protection.

Care & Cleaning

Keep outdoor unit clear of debris, vegetation, and snow accumulation. Clean coil annually with water only - no high pressure sprays.

CAUTION! Do not use harsh chemicals or pressure washers on coil fins. Do not operate with blocked airflow.
