Installation Requirements

Unpack and inspect unit for shipping damage. Ensure proper location with adequate clearance.

  1. Location: Install in level, dry area with minimum clearances (24" front, 6" sides, 6" rear, 24" top).
  2. Venting: Use 2-inch PVC pipe for concentric or separate intake/exhaust; follow local codes.
  3. Gas Supply: Connect 1/2-inch black iron pipe with drip leg; test for leaks with soap solution.
  4. Electrical: Connect 120V AC power with dedicated 15-amp circuit; ground properly.
  5. Ductwork: Connect supply and return ducts; ensure proper sizing and sealing.
  6. Condensate Drain: Install 3/4-inch PVC drain line with trap; route to floor drain.

WARNING! Installation must comply with national and local codes. Only qualified HVAC technicians should install this furnace. Gas leaks can cause explosion or fire.

First-Time Setup & Startup

After installation, perform startup sequence and system check.

  1. Power On: Turn on electrical power and gas supply.
  2. Thermostat: Set to OFF, then HEAT mode with temperature above room temp.
  3. Blower Speed: Adjust dip switches on control board for required CFM (see manual).
  4. Ignition Sequence: Control board will initiate prepurge, ignitor warm-up, gas valve opening, flame sensing.
  5. Check Operation: Verify both stages fire properly; listen for smooth blower operation.
  6. Measure Temperatures: Use thermometer to ensure temperature rise is within 35-65°F range.
  7. Check Venting: Ensure proper draft and no obstructions.

CAUTION! Never bypass safety controls. If furnace fails to start, check diagnostic LED before attempting repairs.

Technical Specifications

Controls & Operation

Integrated control board manages all furnace operations with diagnostic LED. Front panel includes power switch, gas valve, pressure switch ports, and blower access door.

Control Board LED Codes: Steady ON = normal operation. 1 Flash = Pressure switch stuck open. 2 Flashes = Pressure switch stuck closed. 3 Flashes = Limit circuit open. 4 Flashes = Flame sensed when none present. 5 Flashes = Ignition failure. 6 Flashes = Flame rollout switch open. 7 Flashes = Blower fault.

Gas Valve: Two-stage operation modulates between 40% and 100% capacity based on demand.

Blower Control: ECM motor adjusts speed for heating, continuous fan, or cooling modes via thermostat signals.

Thermostat Configuration

Compatible with single-stage, two-stage, and communicating thermostats.

  1. Wiring: Connect thermostat wires to control board terminals (R, C, W1, W2, G, Y).
  2. Two-Stage Setup: For proper staging, use thermostat with W1/W2 terminals.
  3. Fan Control: G terminal controls blower; Y for cooling with AC system.
  4. Continuous Fan: Set thermostat fan to ON for constant circulation.

Tip: For optimal efficiency, use programmable thermostat with two-stage capability.

Maintenance Procedures

Annual maintenance recommended before heating season.

  1. Air Filter: Replace 1-inch filter monthly; clean/replace 4-inch media filter every 6 months.
  2. Blower Assembly: Vacuum blower wheel and housing; check motor bearings.
  3. Heat Exchanger: Visually inspect for cracks or corrosion using mirror and flashlight.
  4. Flame Sensor: Remove and clean with fine sandpaper or steel wool.
  5. Burners: Vacuum burners and inspect for proper flame pattern (blue with yellow tips).
  6. Vent System: Check PVC pipes for obstructions or damage.
  7. Condensate Drain: Flush with water/vinegar solution; ensure trap is filled.
  8. Gas Connections: Check for leaks with soap solution.

WARNING! Turn off electrical power and gas supply before servicing. Only qualified technicians should inspect heat exchanger.

Safety Features

Flame Rollout Switches: Detect flame outside burners; shut off gas valve if tripped. Pressure Switches: Ensure proper venting before ignition. Limit Switches: Prevent overheating by monitoring temperature. Flame Sensor: Confirms flame presence; shuts off gas if no flame detected. Ignition Control: Safely manages gas valve and ignitor sequence.

Care & Cleaning

Keep area around furnace clean and free of combustible materials. Clean exterior with dry cloth only.

CAUTION! Do not use water or cleaning chemicals on electrical components. Never store items against furnace.
