Installation

Unpack and inspect unit for shipping damage. Select appropriate location with adequate clearance for service and combustion air.

  1. Positioning: Place on level, solid surface. Ensure clearances per manual: 1" sides/rear, 6" vent, 24" front.
  2. Venting: Install PVC intake and exhaust pipes per Category IV guidelines. Slope pipes slightly downward to exterior.
  3. Gas Supply: Connect approved gas line with shutoff valve. Use pipe thread sealant suitable for gas.
  4. Electrical: Connect 120V AC power with dedicated 15-amp circuit. Connect thermostat wires to control board.
  5. Ductwork: Connect supply and return ducts securely. Seal all joints with mastic or UL-listed tape.
  6. Condensate Drain: Connect ¾" PVC pipe from collector to drain. Trap required if draining to sewer.

WARNING! Installation must comply with national and local codes. Only qualified HVAC technicians should install or service gas furnaces. Risk of fire, explosion, carbon monoxide poisoning, or electrical shock.

First-Time Setup & Startup

After installation, perform initial setup and startup sequence.

  1. Gas Type Verification: Ensure gas valve is set for correct fuel (Natural Gas or LP). LP conversion requires orifice change and gas pressure adjustment.
  2. Filter Installation: Install clean 1" filter or media filter in rack. Arrow should point toward blower.
  3. Power Up: Turn on gas supply and electrical power. Control board LED will flash once per second (standby).
  4. Thermostat Setup: Set thermostat to OFF. Then set to HEAT mode and temperature above room temp to initiate heating cycle.
  5. System Check: Listen for inducer motor start, ignitor glow, gas valve opening, and flame establishment. Verify proper venting.
  6. Airflow Adjustment: Use dip switches on control board to set blower speed for heating (CFM per ton based on duct design).

CAUTION! Never bypass safety controls. Check for gas leaks with soap solution. Verify flue gas spillage at draft hood after 5 minutes of operation.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control is the integrated furnace control board with LED status light. Settings adjusted via dip switches and jumper pins.

Control Board LED Codes: 1 Flash = Normal standby. 2 Flashes = Pressure switch fault. 3 Flashes = Ignition lockout. 4 Flashes = Flame sensed with gas off. 5 Flashes = Gas valve circuit fault. Continuous On = Call for heat. Refer to manual label for full code list.

Dip Switch Settings (SW1): - SW1-1: Blower OFF delay adjustment. - SW1-2: Heating speed selection (combined with SW1-3). - SW1-3: Heating speed selection. - SW1-4: Continuous fan speed (ON/OFF).

Thermostat Connections: R (24V power), C (Common), W (Heat), G (Fan), Y (Cool - if AC connected).

Gas Valve Adjustment: Manifold pressure should be 3.5" WC for Natural Gas, 10" WC for LP. Adjust with manometer connected to outlet tap.

Connecting Thermostat & Accessories

Compatible with most 24V single-stage or two-stage thermostats. Can be integrated with central air conditioning or humidifier.

  1. Thermostat: Turn off power. Connect thermostat wires to corresponding terminals on control board (R, W, G, C, Y).
  2. Air Conditioner: Connect Y and C from outdoor unit to furnace board. Install appropriate cooling speed via dip switches.
  3. Humidifier: Connect to HUM terminals on board (if equipped) or use transformer and solenoid valve wired to G and W.
  4. Air Cleaner: Electronic air cleaners can be powered via dedicated 120V outlet or connected to furnace control.

Tip: Use 18-gauge thermostat wire. Ensure all connections are tight and not shorted.

Operation Modes

Furnace operates based on thermostat demand.

  1. Standby Mode: LED flashes once per second. No calls from thermostat.
  2. Heating Cycle: On W call: inducer motor starts, pressure switch proves, ignitor heats, gas valve opens, flame established, blower starts after heat exchanger warm-up delay.
  3. Fan Only Mode: On G call: blower runs at continuous fan speed (set by dip switch).
  4. Cooling Cycle (with AC): On Y call: blower runs at cooling speed (set by dip switch), outdoor condenser activates.
  5. Lockout Mode: After several failed ignition attempts, furnace locks out for 1 hour or until power reset.

WARNING! If you smell gas, turn off gas supply, do not operate electrical switches, evacuate, and call gas company or fire department.

Maintenance Procedures

Annual maintenance by qualified technician recommended.

Care & Cleaning

Turn off power and gas before servicing.

  1. Exterior: Wipe cabinet with damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  2. Interior: Vacuum dust from burners, base pan, and around blower. Use soft brush on flame sensor.
  3. Condensate Trap: Flush with water/vinegar solution to prevent algae buildup.
  4. Vent Pipes: Inspect for insect nests or debris. Clean if obstructed.

CAUTION! Never operate without filter. Do not spray water inside electrical compartment. Keep insulation and flammable materials away from furnace.

Regulatory Information

This furnace design complies with ANSI Z21.47/CSA 2.3 standards for gas-fired central furnaces. Manufactured under UL 1995 certification. Installation must conform with National Fuel Gas Code (ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54), local building codes, and manufacturer's instructions. For Canadian installations, comply with CSA B149.1. The furnace contains safety devices to minimize risk of carbon monoxide production; however, proper installation and maintenance are critical. Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Furnace won't turn onNo power, tripped breaker, faulty switchCheck circuit breaker, disconnect switch, and 3-amp fuse on control board.
No heat (blower runs)Thermostat setting, gas supply, ignitorVerify thermostat in HEAT mode, gas valve on, check for LED error code (ignition fault).
Furnace short cyclesDirty filter, restricted vent, high limit switchReplace filter, check vent pipes for blockage, ensure adequate return air.
Blower doesn't runBad capacitor, motor failure, control faultCheck for 120V at motor, inspect capacitor, verify G terminal call from thermostat.
Unusual odorsDust burning off, gas leak, electricalNew installation may have brief dust smell. If gas odor, shut off gas and call professional.
Loud noises (banging, squealing)Dirty burners, loose blower wheel, inducer motorClean burners, tighten set screws on blower, inspect inducer wheel for cracks.
LED flashing error codeSee control board chartMatch flash pattern to manual. Common: pressure switch (check vent/inducer), flame sensor (clean).

Reset Procedure: Turn thermostat to OFF. Turn off power at disconnect or breaker for 30 seconds. Restore power. Set thermostat to HEAT.

Service: For persistent issues, contact a qualified HVAC technician. Do not attempt repairs beyond basic troubleshooting if unqualified.
