Installation Requirements

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on level concrete pad or approved mounting surface.

  1. Location: Install outdoors with minimum 24" clearance on all sides for airflow and service.
  2. Gas connection: Use approved gas line with shutoff valve; pressure test for leaks.
  3. Electrical connection: Connect to dedicated 240V circuit with proper disconnect.
  4. Ductwork: Connect to properly sized supply and return ducts with weatherproof seals.
  5. Condensate drain: Install drain line with trap and route to approved location.

WARNING! Installation must comply with local codes. Gas connections must be performed by qualified technician.

First-Time Startup

Complete installation checks before powering unit.

  1. Gas pressure check: Verify manifold pressure (3.5" WC natural gas, 10" WC propane).
  2. Electrical check: Verify voltage at disconnect; check all connections are tight.
  3. Thermostat setup: Install compatible thermostat; configure for heat/cool operation.
  4. System startup: Turn on power and gas; set thermostat to cooling mode for initial run.
  5. Performance check: Verify temperature drop across coil (15-20°F); check gas pressure.

CAUTION! Do not operate without proper gas pressure verification. Ensure combustion air openings are unobstructed.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Access control board via service panel. LED indicators show system status.

Control Board LEDs: Power (green), Heat (yellow), Cool (yellow), Fan (yellow), Fault (red).

Thermostat Settings: Compatible with most 24V thermostats. Recommended: American Standard AccuLink or compatible programmable thermostat.

DIP Switch Settings: Located on control board for blower speeds, heating/cooling configuration.

Gas Valve Adjustment: Factory set for natural gas. For propane conversion, replace orifice and adjust gas valve pressure.

Connecting Thermostat

Use 18-gauge thermostat wire with minimum 5 conductors.

  1. Turn off power at disconnect before wiring.
  2. Connect thermostat wires to control board terminals: R (24V), C (common), G (fan), Y (cool), W (heat).
  3. For heat pump models: Additional O/B terminal for reversing valve.
  4. Secure connections; route wire through conduit if required by code.
  5. Program thermostat according to manufacturer instructions.

Tip: Use wire labels for easy identification during service.

Operating Modes

Three operating modes: Cooling, Heating, Fan Only.

  1. Cooling Mode: Compressor and outdoor fan operate; indoor blower runs continuously.
  2. Heating Mode: Gas valve opens, igniter activates, blower starts after heat exchanger warms.
  3. Fan Only: Indoor blower operates without heating or cooling.
  4. Automatic Mode: Thermostat automatically selects heating or cooling based on setpoint.
  5. Emergency Heat: For heat pump models only; uses backup heat strips.

WARNING! Do not switch between heating and cooling modes rapidly. Allow 5 minutes between mode changes.

Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance ensures efficiency and longevity.

  1. Monthly: Check and replace air filter (located in return duct).
  2. Seasonal: Clean outdoor coil with coil cleaner; remove debris from around unit.
  3. Annual (by technician): Check refrigerant charge, gas pressure, combustion analysis, electrical connections, blower operation, drain line clearance.
  4. Biannual: Inspect heat exchanger for cracks or corrosion.

CAUTION! Turn off power and gas before performing any maintenance. Only qualified technicians should service gas and refrigerant components.

Care & Cleaning

Keep unit clear of vegetation and debris. Clean outdoor coil annually.

Outdoor Unit: Turn off power. Remove debris from fins with fin comb. Clean with mild detergent and water rinse.

Indoor Section: Clean blower wheel and housing annually. Check drain pan and line for algae growth.

CAUTION! Do not use high-pressure water on electrical components. Do not bend coil fins.
