Installation

Unpack and inspect all components. Ensure proper location for outdoor unit.

  1. Position Outdoor Unit: Place on level, stable pad away from debris and with adequate airflow.
  2. Connect Refrigerant Lines: Braze copper lines between indoor and outdoor units; ensure tight, leak-free connections.
  3. Connect Electrical: Run high-voltage wiring from disconnect box to unit; connect low-voltage thermostat wires.
  4. Connect Drain Line: Attach PVC condensate drain from indoor coil to suitable drainage point.
  5. Evacuate and Charge: Vacuum refrigerant lines, then charge with specified refrigerant type and amount.

WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Incorrect installation can cause injury, property damage, or system failure. Disconnect all power before servicing.

First-Time Setup

After installation, power on system and configure thermostat.

  1. Power Up: Turn on circuit breaker and disconnect switch.
  2. Configure Thermostat: Follow thermostat manual to set date/time, cooling setpoints, and fan mode.
  3. Test Operation: Set thermostat to COOL mode, temperature below room temp. Verify compressor and fan start.
  4. Check Airflow: Ensure adequate airflow from all supply vents; check return air filter is clean.
  5. Verify Drainage: Confirm condensate drain is flowing freely.

CAUTION! Do not operate without proper refrigerant charge or with blocked airflow. Ensure electrical connections are secure.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control is via the connected thermostat. Outdoor unit has a diagnostic LED.

Thermostat Functions: MODE (COOL, OFF, FAN), FAN (AUTO, ON), TEMPERATURE SETPOINT, SCHEDULE, HOLD.

Diagnostic LED (Outdoor Unit): Steady On = Normal operation. Flashing = Error code (refer to service manual).

Advanced Settings (via Thermostat or DIP switches on control board - for technicians): Compressor delay time, fan control, refrigerant charge mode, communication settings for variable-speed models.

Connecting to Thermostat & Ductwork

Thermostat: Uses standard low-voltage (24V) wiring (R, C, Y, G, O/B, etc.). Ductwork: Must be properly sized and sealed.

  1. Turn off all power at disconnect and breaker.
  2. Connect thermostat wires to indoor unit control board per wiring diagram.
  3. Ensure ductwork connections at air handler are tight and insulated.
  4. Balance dampers (if installed) for even airflow distribution.

Tip: Use a programmable or smart thermostat to maximize energy savings and comfort.

Operating Modes

Standard modes controlled by thermostat.

  1. Cooling Mode: Compressor and outdoor fan run; indoor blower circulates cool air.
  2. Fan Only Mode: Indoor blower runs without compressor for air circulation.
  3. Auto Mode: Fan runs only when compressor is active.
  4. Dehumidification (on some models): Enhanced moisture removal in cooling mode.
  5. Smart Recovery: Pre-cools home to reach setpoint by scheduled time.

WARNING! Do not switch system between COOL and OFF rapidly. Allow 5-minute compressor off-time between cycles.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures efficiency and longevity.

  1. Monthly: Check/replace air filter (located at air handler or return grille).
  2. Seasonal (Spring): Clean outdoor coil with gentle water spray (power off). Clear debris (leaves, grass).
  3. Annual (Professional): Schedule professional inspection: check refrigerant charge, electrical connections, clean indoor coil, inspect drain line, and verify system performance.

CAUTION! Always turn power OFF before cleaning. Do not use pressure washer on outdoor coil. Do not attempt to service refrigerant system.
