Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure ductwork is accessible and clean.

  1. Select Location: Choose straight duct section, at least 3 duct diameters from elbows or transitions.
  2. Cut Opening: Cut appropriate hole in duct for damper body per dimensions in specifications.
  3. Mount Damper: Insert damper into duct, secure with mounting brackets and sheet metal screws.
  4. Connect Wiring: Route low-voltage cable to damper location. Connect to 4-pin connector (follow wiring diagram).
  5. Secure Duct: Ensure damper is sealed in duct with approved duct sealant to prevent air leakage.

WARNING! Disconnect all power to HVAC system before installation. Ensure damper blade moves freely without obstruction.

First-Time Setup

Power on system; damper will auto-calibrate.

  1. System Power: Restore power to HVAC system. Damper LED will blink during calibration.
  2. Verify Calibration: LED should turn solid green when calibration is complete and communication is established.
  3. Configure Zone: At the AccuLink thermostat, add damper to the zone configuration menu.
  4. Set Fail-Safe: Choose desired fail-safe position (Open or Closed) for communication loss via thermostat settings.
  5. Test Operation: Use thermostat to call for heating/cooling in the zone; verify damper opens and airflow is present.

CAUTION! Do not force damper blade manually. Allow auto-calibration to complete.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

All configuration is performed via the AccuLink thermostat interface. No manual controls on damper.

Thermostat Menus (AccuLink): ZONE SETUP > ADD/REMOVE DAMPERS, DAMPER SETTINGS (Fail-Safe, Calibration, Test).

LED Status Indicators: Solid Green: Normal operation, communication active. Blinking Green (1 sec): Calibration in progress. Blinking Green (fast): Awaiting communication/configuration. Solid Red: Motor fault/obstruction detected. Blinking Red: Communication error or power issue. Off: No power.

Configurable Settings: Fail-Safe Position (Open/Closed), Zone Assignment, Manual Override (Test Open/Close).

Connecting to System

Connects to AccuLink zone control panel or compatible communicating furnace/air handler.

  1. Turn off all system power at disconnect and breaker.
  2. Locate AccuLink communication terminals (C1, C2) on control board.
  3. Run 18/2 shielded communication cable (Belden 8723 or equivalent) from control board to damper location.
  4. Connect wires to damper's 4-pin connector (Pins 1 & 2: 24VAC, Pins 3 & 4: Data). Match polarity to control board.
  5. For multiple dampers, connect in parallel (daisy-chain) from one damper to the next.
  6. Restore power. System will recognize new damper.

Tip: Use twisted, shielded cable and keep low-voltage wiring at least 12 inches from line-voltage wires.

Commissioning & Calibration

Automatic on power-up. Manual calibration can be initiated from thermostat.

  1. Auto-Calibration: Occurs whenever damper powers on. Blade cycles full travel to learn endpoints.
  2. Manual Re-Calibration: From thermostat: ZONE SETUP > SELECT DAMPER > CALIBRATE.
  3. Airflow Balancing: Use thermostat zone airflow adjustment to set maximum CFM for the zone.
  4. Verify Operation: Command each zone individually from thermostat to confirm correct damper response.
  5. System Test: Run complete system cycle (heating & cooling) to ensure all zones operate harmoniously.

WARNING! Do not interrupt power during calibration. Ensure duct is clear of debris.

Diagnostics & Alerts

Faults are reported to the AccuLink thermostat for display.

LED/Display CodeMeaningAction
Solid Red LEDMotor fault, obstructionCheck for physical blockage; ensure blade moves freely.
Blinking Red LEDCommunication lossCheck wiring connections, polarity, and power at control board.
Thermostat: "Damper Not Responding"No communicationVerify damper is powered and added to zone config.
Thermostat: "Damper Calibration Failed"Calibration errorInitiate manual calibration; inspect for mechanical binding.

Care & Maintenance

No routine maintenance required. Periodically inspect for dust/debris accumulation on blade.

  1. Power off system.
  2. Remove damper access cover (if applicable) or inspect via duct access door.
  3. Vacuum any loose debris from blade and housing.
  4. Ensure blade moves freely by initiating a test cycle from thermostat.
  5. Check wiring connections for corrosion or looseness.

CAUTION! Do not lubricate motor or blade mechanism. Do not use compressed air which may force debris into bearings.
