Installation Guidelines

Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician in accordance with all local codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  1. Site Preparation: Place outdoor unit on a level, stable pad with adequate clearance for airflow and service.
  2. Electrical Connection: Connect to proper power supply (208/230V, 1 phase) with correctly sized disconnect and overcurrent protection.
  3. Refrigerant Lines: Connect to indoor unit using clean, dehydrated, correctly sized copper lines. Braze with nitrogen purge.
  4. Communicating Wire: Run AccuLink communication cable (minimum 18 AWG, 4-conductor) between outdoor unit and indoor unit/thermostat.
  5. Condensate Drain: Ensure proper drainage from indoor unit is installed and trapped.

WARNING! Risk of electrical shock and refrigerant exposure. Only qualified personnel should install or service this equipment. Disconnect all power before servicing.

First-Time Setup & Commissioning

After installation, the system must be commissioned by a technician to ensure proper operation.

  1. Power Up: Restore power to indoor and outdoor units.
  2. Check Communication: Verify AccuLink thermostat is communicating with both units (no error codes).
  3. Configure Thermostat: Set system type, fan control, and any zoning parameters in the thermostat installer setup menu.
  4. Charge Refrigerant: Weigh in the correct factory-specified charge of R-410A. Do not use pressure-only methods.
  5. Test Operation: Run system in cooling mode. Verify correct temperatures, airflow, and cycle times.
  6. Final Check: Inspect for leaks, secure all access panels, and review basic operation with homeowner.

CAUTION! Incorrect refrigerant charge can damage the compressor and void the warranty.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control is through the compatible AccuLink thermostat. The outdoor unit has an LED status light for diagnostics.

Thermostat Menus (Example): SYSTEM (Cool, Heat, Off, Auto), FAN (Auto, On), TEMPERATURE SETPOINT, SCHEDULE, HUMIDITY CONTROL, INSTALLER SETUP (for technician only).

Outdoor Unit LED Codes: Steady Green = Normal Operation. Flashing Codes indicate specific faults (e.g., 1 flash = Communication Error, 3 flashes = High Pressure Lockout).

Installer Settings (via Thermostat): System type (Heat Pump/AC), CFM settings, compressor minimum/maximum run times, accessory configuration.

Connecting Thermostat & Accessories

The AccuLink system uses a 4-wire communication bus (C, D1, D2, G) instead of conventional 24V control wires.

  1. Turn off power to the indoor air handler/furnace and outdoor unit.
  2. At the indoor unit control board, connect the AccuLink thermostat wires to the dedicated communication terminals.
  3. Run the same 4-conductor cable to the outdoor unit and connect to its communication terminal block.
  4. For zoning or accessories (humidifier, air cleaner), follow the accessory installation manual for connection to the indoor unit's control board or zoning panel.
  5. Restore power. The system will initiate communication.

Tip: Use shielded communication cable if running near high-voltage lines to prevent interference.

Operating Modes

Use the thermostat to control system operation.

  1. Cooling Mode: Set thermostat to COOL and desired temperature. The variable-speed compressor will ramp up/down to meet demand.
  2. Fan Mode: Set fan to ON for continuous circulation or AUTO to run only with cooling.
  3. Dehumidification: In cooling mode, the system can slow the fan speed to enhance moisture removal (if enabled in installer settings).
  4. System Shutoff: Set thermostat to OFF.

WARNING! Do not switch between heating and cooling modes rapidly. Allow several minutes between mode changes.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is required for efficiency, performance, and warranty compliance.

Homeowner (Monthly/Seasonally): - Inspect/clean or replace indoor air filter. - Ensure outdoor unit coil is free of leaves, grass, and debris. - Keep area around outdoor unit clear (2 ft minimum).

Qualified Technician (Annually): - Inspect electrical connections and tighten if necessary. - Check refrigerant charge and system pressures. - Clean indoor coil and outdoor coil as needed. - Inspect condensate drain and clear if clogged. - Check blower wheel and motor. - Verify all system functions and safety controls.

CAUTION! Homeowners should only perform filter maintenance. All other service must be done by a qualified technician.
