Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on level, stable pad.

  1. Position unit: Place on concrete pad or approved mounting system, ensuring proper clearance (min 24" on all sides).
  2. Connect refrigerant lines: Braze lines to service valves using nitrogen purge to prevent oxidation.
  3. Connect electrical: Run power and control wiring from indoor unit to outdoor disconnect and unit connection box.
  4. Evacuate and charge: Evacuate system to 500 microns, then charge with specified refrigerant per data plate.

WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Follow all safety codes. Unit contains refrigerant under pressure.

First-Time Setup

After installation, perform initial startup and system check.

  1. Power on: Ensure disconnect switch and indoor unit are powered.
  2. Check thermostat: Set to COOL mode, temperature below room temp.
  3. Verify operation: Listen for compressor and fan startup; check for cool air from indoor vents.
  4. Measure performance: Check superheat/subcooling per manufacturer specifications.

CAUTION! Do not operate without proper refrigerant charge. Ensure electrical connections are tight.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control via thermostat. Unit includes internal safeties and diagnostic LEDs.

Thermostat Settings: COOL, FAN (ON/AUTO), temperature setpoint.

Unit Controls: High/low pressure switches, compressor overload, fan cycle control.

Diagnostic LEDs: On control board indicate system status (normal operation, lockout, fault codes).

Settings Adjustment: Fan speed may be adjustable via motor taps; refer to wiring diagram.

Connecting to Indoor Unit

Must be matched with approved American Standard indoor coil/furnace/air handler.

  1. Match capacity: Ensure indoor unit matches 4-ton capacity.
  2. Connect refrigerant lines: Use correct line size (typically 3/4" liquid, 7/8" vapor).
  3. Connect control wiring: Typically 2-5 wires (R, C, Y, O/B, G) between thermostat, indoor unit, and outdoor unit.
  4. Connect power: Outdoor unit requires dedicated circuit from disconnect.

Tip: Refer to indoor unit installation manual for specific wiring and piping details.

Operation

Normal operation is controlled by thermostat.

  1. Set thermostat to COOL and desired temperature.
  2. Fan will start, followed by compressor after short delay.
  3. Unit runs until setpoint is reached, then cycles off.
  4. Fan may continue (if set to ON) or stop (if set to AUTO).
  5. For heating, switch to HEAT mode (requires heat pump or furnace).

WARNING! Do not block airflow around unit. Keep area clear of debris.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures efficiency and longevity.

CAUTION! Turn off power at disconnect before servicing. Coil fins are sharp.
