Unpack and inspect for shipping damage. Select a level, stable outdoor location with adequate clearance.
WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician in accordance with all local codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Disconnect all power before servicing.
After installation, perform initial startup and system check.
CAUTION! Do not operate without proper refrigerant charge. Allow unit to complete a full cycle before adjusting settings.
Primary control is via the indoor thermostat. The unit features internal protection controls.
Thermostat Operation: Set to COOL, AUTO FAN, and desired temperature. System will cycle automatically.
Internal Safeties: High-pressure switch, low-pressure switch, compressor overload, time-delay relay (typically 5 minutes) to prevent short cycling.
Normal Operation Sounds: Hum of compressor, airflow from fan. A slight hiss after shutdown is normal (refrigerant equalizing).
This condenser must be paired with a matching American Standard indoor coil and air handler or furnace.
Tip: Label all wires during installation for easier future service.
Regular maintenance ensures efficiency and longevity. Disconnect power before any service.
WARNING! Do not use a pressure washer or insert objects into the coil fins. Do not attempt to service refrigerant system.
High and Low Pressure Switches: Shut off compressor if refrigerant pressures are outside safe limits. Compressor Overload: Internal thermal protection. Time Delay: Prevents compressor from restarting for approximately 5 minutes after shutdown to protect it. Fused Disconnect: Required in field-installed power disconnect for overcurrent protection.
Keep area around unit clear (minimum 24 inches on all sides, especially the coil side). Wash outdoor coil with garden hose (nozzle off) annually to remove dirt and pollen. Keep grass and weeds trimmed around pad.
CAUTION! Never operate unit with top grille or panels removed. Do not use chemical cleaners on coil unless specified.
This product complies with applicable U.S. safety and performance standards. R-410A refrigerant is non-ozone depleting. Proper disposal required at end of life. For installation in accordance with NEC (NFPA 70) and local codes. Manufactured for residential use. Copyright © American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning. | Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not start | Power off, thermostat setting, time delay | Check disconnect & breaker; verify thermostat is in COOL below room temp; wait 5 mins. |
| Fan runs, compressor does not | Low/high pressure switch tripped, capacitor | Call for professional service to check charge and capacitors. |
| Reduced cooling | Dirty filter/coil, low refrigerant | Replace indoor air filter; clean outdoor coil; call for service to check charge. |
| Unit cycles on/off rapidly | Dirty coil, restricted airflow, overcharge | Clean coils; check indoor filter and ductwork; professional service required. |
| Ice on refrigerant lines or indoor coil | Low airflow, low refrigerant | Turn system OFF; check/replace air filter; ensure vents are open; call for service. |
| Unusual noise | Loose panel, debris in fan, failing component | Secure access panels; clear debris from fan; rattling may indicate failing contactor or fan motor - call for service. |
Reset: Turn thermostat to OFF, turn off power at disconnect for 30 seconds, then restore power and reset thermostat.
Service: Contact a qualified American Standard dealer. Do not attempt repairs requiring refrigerant handling or major electrical work.
