Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a level, stable outdoor pad.
WARNING! Installation and servicing of refrigerant circuits must be performed by a qualified technician in accordance with national and local codes. Incorrect installation can cause injury, property damage, or equipment failure.
After installation, perform initial startup and system check.
CAUTION! Do not operate without correct refrigerant charge. Allow fan to run for a few minutes after shutdown to cool the compressor.
Primary control is via the indoor thermostat. Unit has internal protection controls.
Thermostat: Use a compatible single-stage thermostat. Settings include COOL, OFF, FAN (AUTO/ON), and temperature setpoint.
Unit Internal Controls:
High-Pressure Switch: Opens on excessively high discharge pressure.
Low-Pressure Switch: Opens on excessively low suction pressure.
Compressor Thermal Overload: Protects against overheating.
Time Delay Relay: Prevents short cycling (typically 5-minute delay after shutdown).
No user-adjustable settings on the outdoor unit itself. All configuration is via the matched indoor unit and thermostat.
This is a split system. Requires connection to an indoor coil (for cooling) or furnace/air handler.
Tip: Use a wiring diagram specific to your matched indoor/outdoor system combination. Seal all conduit penetrations to the outdoor unit.
Operation is controlled by the indoor thermostat.
WARNING! Do not cover or obstruct the outdoor unit's airflow. Do not attempt to operate the unit if the cabinet panels are removed.

| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not start | Power off, tripped breaker, blown fuse, thermostat set incorrectly, time delay active. | Check disconnect switch and breakers. Verify thermostat is in COOL, set below room temp. Wait 5 minutes. If problem persists, call for service. |
| Outdoor fan runs, compressor does not | Low refrigerant charge (low-pressure switch open), faulty capacitor, compressor overload. | Call for service. Technician must check charge, capacitors, and electrical components. |
| Compressor runs but fan does not | Faulty fan motor, bad capacitor, obstructed fan blade. | Turn unit OFF immediately. Call for service. Do not run with fan not operating. |
| Reduced cooling/ice on lines | Dirty filter, dirty indoor/outdoor coil, low refrigerant charge, restricted airflow. | Replace air filter. Clean coils if accessible. If ice is present, turn system to FAN only to melt ice before servicing. Call for service to check charge. |
| Unit cycles on/off frequently (short cycles) | Dirty filter/coil, improper charge, oversized unit, faulty thermostat. | Check/replace filter. Ensure registers are open. Call for service to diagnose. |
| Unusual noise | Loose panel, debris in fan, failing motor or compressor. | Ensure all access panels are secure. Clear debris. If noise continues, turn unit off and call for service. |
Reset: There is no user-accessible reset button. Turning power off at the disconnect for 5 minutes may reset internal safeties.
Service: Contact a qualified American Standard Dealer for all repairs. Do not attempt to repair refrigerant system or electrical components yourself.
