Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level pad (concrete recommended).

  1. Select Location: Choose a level site with adequate clearance (min 24" on all sides, 48" above). Ensure good airflow and away from windows.
  2. Set Pad: Place unit on a solid, level pad that extends 2" beyond cabinet on all sides.
  3. Connect Refrigerant Lines: Connect pre-charged, insulated lines from indoor unit to service valves. Brazing must be done with nitrogen purge.
  4. Connect Electrical: Run properly sized, weatherproof cable from disconnect box to unit's control panel. Connect L1, L2, and ground per wiring diagram.
  5. Connect Condensate Drain: Ensure indoor unit drain line is properly installed and unobstructed.

WARNING! Installation and service must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Incorrect installation can cause property damage, personal injury, or death. Disconnect all power before servicing.

First-Time Setup & Startup

After installation, perform initial startup and system check.

  1. Power On: Ensure thermostat is set to OFF. Restore power at disconnect and indoor unit.
  2. System Check: Set thermostat to COOL, temperature below room temp. Verify outdoor fan and compressor engage.
  3. Measurements: Technician should measure superheat/subcooling, system pressures, voltage, and amperage to verify correct charge and operation.
  4. Register Product: Complete and mail warranty registration card or register online to activate warranty.

CAUTION! Do not operate without refrigerant lines connected and properly charged. Do not bypass safety controls.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Primary control is via the indoor thermostat. Unit has an integrated control board with LED status light.

Thermostat Operation: Set to COOL, AUTO FAN, and desired temperature. System will cycle automatically.

Outdoor Unit LED: Single LED on control board. Steady ON = normal operation. Flashing patterns indicate specific fault codes (see Troubleshooting).

Compressor Protection: Built-in time delay prevents short cycling (approx. 5 minutes).

Fan Operation: Outdoor fan runs whenever compressor is energized.

Connecting to Thermostat & Indoor Unit

This is a split system. Requires connection to an indoor coil/furnace/air handler and a thermostat.

  1. Turn OFF all power to indoor and outdoor units.
  2. Thermostat Wires: Typically use 18-5 or 18-7 cable. Connect R (24V Power), C (Common), Y (Compressor), G (Fan) from thermostat to indoor unit control board.
  3. Outdoor Wires: From indoor unit, run 2-conductor power (L1, L2) and 2-conductor control (Y, C) to outdoor unit.
  4. Refer to the wiring diagram located on the inside of the outdoor unit service panel and the indoor unit installation manual for specific connections.

Tip: Use a voltmeter to verify 24VAC between R and C at the thermostat before connecting.

Maintenance Procedures

Annual maintenance by a qualified technician is recommended.

  1. Inspect & Clean Coil: Turn power OFF. Remove top grille and fan assembly if necessary. Gently clean outdoor coil fins with a soft brush or low-pressure water from the inside out. Straighten any bent fins.
  2. Check Electrical: Inspect wiring for damage or corrosion. Tighten connections. Check capacitor(s) for proper microfarad rating.
  3. Check Refrigerant Charge: Measure subcooling/superheat. Adjust charge if necessary per manufacturer specifications.
  4. Lubrication: Fan motor is permanently lubricated; no oiling required.
  5. Clear Area: Keep area around unit free of leaves, grass, shrubs, and debris (min 24" clearance).

WARNING! Always disconnect electrical power before performing any maintenance. High voltage is present.

Safety Features

High-Pressure Switch: Opens circuit if discharge pressure is excessive. Low-Pressure Switch: Opens circuit if suction pressure is too low. Compressor Internal Overload: Protects against overheating. Crankcase Heater: (If equipped) Prevents refrigerant migration and oil slugging. Time Delay: Protects compressor from short cycling.

Care & Cleaning

Disconnect power before cleaning. Keep the outdoor coil clean. Wash with a garden hose from the inside of the coil outward. Do not use a pressure washer. Keep the base of the unit free of grass, leaves, and snow.

CAUTION! Do not clean coil with harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Do not insert objects into fan blades.
