Unpack and inspect unit for shipping damage. Select a suitable outdoor location.
WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Incorrect installation can cause injury, property damage, or unit failure.
After installation, perform initial startup and system check.
CAUTION! Do not operate the system without proper refrigerant charge or with blocked airflow. Ensure all access panels are securely in place before operation.
Primary control is via the indoor thermostat. The outdoor unit has no user-accessible controls.
Thermostat Operation: Set to COOL, HEAT (if connected to furnace/heat pump), FAN (ON/AUTO), and adjust temperature setpoint.
Normal Cycle: When thermostat calls for cooling, the indoor blower and outdoor fan/compressor will energize. The system will run until the set temperature is satisfied.
Safety Controls (Automatic): High-pressure switch, low-pressure switch, compressor overload protector, and time-delay relay (typically 5 minutes) prevent short cycling.
This unit must be matched with an approved American Standard indoor coil or air handler.
Tip: A properly sized and installed line set is critical for system efficiency and longevity.
Regular maintenance is required for optimal performance and longevity. Disconnect all power before servicing.
WARNING! Do not use a pressure washer to clean the coil. Do not attempt to service refrigerant circuit—licensed professional only.
High/Low Pressure Switches: Automatically shut off compressor if refrigerant pressure is outside safe limits. Compressor Overload Protector: Internal protection against overheating. Time-Delay Relay: Prevents compressor from restarting for approximately 5 minutes after shutdown to protect it.
Disconnect power at the disconnect switch before any cleaning. Keep the outdoor coil clean and free of debris. Wash the coil with a garden hose, spraying from the inside of the unit outward. Keep shrubbery at least 24 inches away for proper airflow.
CAUTION! Never insert sticks or tools into the fan grille while power is connected. Do not use chemical cleaners on the coil unless specified by the manufacturer.
This product complies with applicable U.S. safety and performance standards. | Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not start | Power off, thermostat setting, time delay | Check disconnect and breaker. Verify thermostat is in COOL mode below room temp. Wait 5 minutes for time delay. |
| Unit runs but does not cool | Dirty filter/coil, low refrigerant | Replace indoor air filter. Clean outdoor coil. Contact technician to check refrigerant charge. |
| Unit cycles on/off frequently (short cycles) | Dirty filter/coil, overcharge, faulty sensor | Clean/replace filter and coils. Contact technician to diagnose. |
| Loud or unusual noise | Loose part, debris in fan, failing component | Turn unit OFF. Check for loose panels or debris. Contact technician. |
| Ice on refrigerant lines or outdoor unit | Low airflow, low refrigerant | Turn system OFF. Check/replace indoor air filter. Contact technician. |
Reset: Turn thermostat to OFF, turn off power at disconnect for 30 seconds, then restore power and reset thermostat.
