Installation Requirements

Unpack and inspect unit for damage. Ensure proper location and clearances.

  1. Select location: Outdoor, level pad, minimum 24" clearance on all sides, away from obstructions.
  2. Electrical connection: Disconnect power. Connect 208/230V supply wires to unit disconnect per wiring diagram.
  3. Refrigerant lines: Connect pre-charged lineset to service valves; ensure proper brazing and evacuation.
  4. Condensate drain: Ensure proper drainage from indoor coil.
  5. Thermostat wiring: Connect to indoor air handler and outdoor unit per provided schematic.

WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Follow all local codes. Risk of electric shock and refrigerant exposure.

First-Time Setup & Startup

After installation, perform initial startup and system check.

  1. Power on: Restore power at disconnect and indoor air handler.
  2. Thermostat setup: Set to COOL mode, desired temperature below room temp.
  3. System check: Listen for compressor and fan operation. Check for unusual noises/vibrations.
  4. Measurements: Verify correct refrigerant charge via superheat/subcooling method.
  5. Airflow check: Ensure adequate airflow across indoor coil; check filter.

CAUTION! Do not operate without proper refrigerant charge. Allow unit to stabilize for 10-15 minutes after startup.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control via compatible thermostat (not included). Unit has internal safeties and control board.

Thermostat Functions: Mode (COOL, OFF, FAN), Temperature Setpoint, Fan (AUTO, ON).

Unit Control Board: LED status light (green = normal, flashing = fault code). Compressor short-cycle protection (5-minute delay). High/low pressure switches. Overload protection for compressor and fan motor.

Settings via Thermostat: Adjust temperature differential (if programmable). Set fan operation. Program schedules for energy savings.

Connecting to Thermostat & Air Handler

Compatible with most 24VAC thermostats. Requires proper wiring to indoor air handler.

  1. Turn off power to indoor and outdoor units.
  2. At air handler control board, connect thermostat wires: R (24V), C (common), Y (compressor), G (fan).
  3. Run low-voltage wires from air handler to outdoor unit terminal block.
  4. Connect Y and C terminals at outdoor unit.
  5. Restore power and test operation.

Tip: Use 18-gauge thermostat wire. Ensure connections are tight and correct per wiring diagram.

Operating Modes

Operates in COOL mode only (cooling-only unit). Fan can run continuously or auto.

  1. Cooling: Thermostat calls for cooling, energizes Y terminal, compressor and outdoor fan start.
  2. Fan Operation: With thermostat in FAN ON, indoor blower runs continuously. In AUTO, blower runs only with cooling call.
  3. Shutdown: Thermostat satisfied, de-energizes Y, compressor and outdoor fan stop. Indoor fan may continue per setting.
  4. Compressor Protection: Built-in 5-minute time delay prevents short cycling.

WARNING! Do not operate in heating mode. Unit is cooling-only. Operating below 55°F ambient may cause coil freeze-up.

Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance ensures efficiency and longevity. Perform annually or as needed.

  1. Outdoor Unit: Keep area clear of debris, leaves, vegetation (maintain 24" clearance).
  2. Coil Cleaning: Gently clean outdoor coil with water hose (no high pressure). Straighten bent fins with fin comb.
  3. Electrical: Inspect connections for tightness/corrosion. Check disconnect and wiring.
  4. Refrigerant: Check charge annually via superheat/subcooling. Do not add refrigerant unless leak detected and repaired.
  5. Indoor Section: Replace air filter monthly during cooling season. Ensure condensate drain is clear.

CAUTION! Disconnect power before servicing. Coil cleaning chemicals may be harmful; follow manufacturer instructions.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Unit not runningPower, thermostat, delayCheck disconnect and breaker. Verify thermostat setting and batteries. Wait 5 minutes for delay.
Poor coolingDirty filter/coil, low chargeReplace filter. Clean outdoor coil. Check refrigerant charge (call technician).
Unit cycles on/off rapidlyDirty coil, airflow, overchargeClean coils. Check indoor blower and filter. Verify charge.
Ice on outdoor unitLow airflow, low chargeCheck indoor filter and blower. Ensure registers open. Check charge.
Unusual noiseDebris, loose parts, fanClear debris from fan. Tighten access panels. Inspect fan blade for damage.
LED flashing codeFault conditionCount flashes: 2 = low pressure, 3 = high pressure, 4 = compressor overload, etc. Refer to manual.

Reset: Turn thermostat to OFF, then back to COOL. If fault persists, power cycle at disconnect.
